Abstract
Clinical observations were made on 107 cases of pneumonia, admitted in Han Gang Sung Sim Hospital from Jan. 1972 to 1976. Following results were obtained.
1. In age and sex distributions, high incidence was noted in third decade and the male to female ratio was 1.7 : 1. Most of cases developed in winter (39.3%) and early spring(15. 8%).
2. The main manifestations were cough, fever and chill, sputum, dyspnea and chest pain. The main physical signs were moist rales, tachycardia, tachypnea and anemia.
3. In most cases hemoglobin levels were above 12 gm% at the time of admission and below 10gm% in. 8.4% of cases. In about one fifth of the cases, the concentration of Na, K, Cl were below normal. S.G. O.T., B.U.N., creatinine were slightly increased but S.G.P.T. was in normal range.
4. In 64 cases among 107 cases the causative agents were proved to be bacteria and ¢¥the major organisms were streptococci and staphylococci, 42. 2% and 18.7 % respectively. Sensitivity test revealed that penicillin was effective in streptococci and pneumococei, kanamycin was in gram negative organisms and in mixed infection, cephalosporins, was in staphylococci.
5. In roentgenologic findings, bronchopneumonias were about twice of lobar type. The ratio of right to left was 1.8: 1.
6. The complications were pleural effusion(12.1%), lung abscess(3.7%), empyema(1.9%), atelectasis(1.9%), and spontaneous pneumothorax (0.9%).
7. Eleven cases(10.3%) were expired during hospital stay. The fatality rate was higher in concomitant disease group.
